There are songs, certain songs.
Songs in Portuguese.
The ones we heard during the break,
on the school stairs
That make us smile.
And then,
make us cry.

2021, Sydney, Friday, August 13, 8:05 pm. I start humming “Quase sem querer”, put it on Spotify, listen three times, sing screamingly along and dance. I remember the texture of the cover of the CD “Dois” by Legião Urbana and my friend who hates Legião (yeah, I know, it’s hard to find someone who doesn’t like Legião). Alone, I cry, wishing it was 2003.
